ST. LOUIS — A St. ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëùµ¼º½ÍøÖ· County woman was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison for fatally stabbing her ex-boyfriend shortly after a breakup in 2022.
Carla Welch, 35, was set to face trial this week on charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and first-degree burglary. Instead, she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action in a deal with prosecutors.
Charges said Welch forced her way through a back door of a home in the 5200 block of Emerson Avenue and fatally stabbed 35-year-old Charles M. Johnson II.
Welch's phone records from that morning, Sept. 22, 2022, showed she and Johnson had spoken multiple times, charges said. Witnesses told police the couple had recently broken up.
Welch was sentenced to 15 years for murder with a consecutive 3-year term for armed criminal action.
