ST. LOUIS — A man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for his role in beating a woman, removing her dialysis port and leaving her for dead in the city's Bevo Mill neighborhood.
Darris Williams, 37, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and kidnapping in the May 23, 2021, killing of 41-year-old Lynette Lecates, according to a news release from the St. ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëùµ¼º½ÍøÖ· circuit court.
Williams was set to face trial this week on charges of first-degree murder, robbery and kidnapping, but those charges were reduced as part of a plea agreement.Â
His co-defendant, Anthony D. Newberry, was sentenced in August to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and kidnapping.
Charges said the men beat Lecates and stole her debit card. They couldn't use the card because they didn't know her PIN, so they forced her into the trunk of a car and drove her around to several locations before stopping at an industrial area in the 5200 block of South 38th Street, charges said.Â
