ST. LOUIS 鈥 Norma Walker, the 22nd Ward Democratic committeewoman, is the party鈥檚 nominee for the aldermanic seat of Jeffrey Boyd, who resigned after his indictment on federal corruption charges.
Walker, who was picked Saturday by the city Democratic committee to run in a special election Aug. 23, has the endorsement of Boyd, who has sent an email to various ward residents on her behalf.
鈥淣orma has been a true servant for our community,鈥 Boyd said in the email, sent Tuesday. 鈥淲e need her leadership to keep moving the ward forward. Although I鈥檓 no longer Alderman, I will always be available if you need me. I love my community.鈥
Boyd began the email by saying 鈥測ou may have heard I鈥檝e resigned ... due to unfortunate circumstances.鈥
He said he was proud of what he accomplished in his 19 years as an alderman, citing new housing in several locations, annual community picnics and new businesses in the ward.

In doing so, he said, he had the support of an elected leadership team that also includes Walker and ward committeeman Andre Williams.
Boyd resigned June 3, the day after he pleaded not guilty to bribery and insurance fraud charges.
Walker could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
The Election Board has allowed political party committees to nominate candidates for aldermanic vacancies this year as specified in a city charter provision.
The charter has precedence over Proposition D, an ordinance passed by voters in 2020 that mandated nonpartisan elections for aldermen and some other key offices.
